Endpoint detection apparatus and method for chemical/mechanical polishing
Patent number: 5308438
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining a selected endpoint in the polishing of layers on a workpiece in a chemical/mechanical polishing apparatus where the workpiece is rotated by a motor against a polishing pad. When a difficult to polish layer, i.e., one requiring a chemical change in a surface skin of the layer which skin is then abraded away by a mechanical process is removed from a more easy to polish surface, i.e., one that relies solely on mechanical abrasion and does not need to have a chemically converted skin thereon. The power required to maintain a set rotational speed in a motor rotating the workpiece significantly drops when the difficult to polish layer is removed. This current drop is used to detect the point at which the polishing must be stopped to avoid over polishing effects, i.e., dishing or thinning or removal of the more easily removed underlying material. Thus, an end point in the process can be established.

Method and apparatus for generating velocity commands for a continuously variable transmission
Patent number: 6223111
Abstract: A control apparatus for a continuously variable transmission is disclosed. The control apparatus includes a transmission speed sensor which generates an actual velocity signal in response measuring speed of an output shaft of the continuously variable transmission. The control apparatus further includes a first input device, or speed pedal, which is positionable in one of an infinite number of positions and generates a desired velocity signal corresponding to the position of the speed pedal. The control apparatus yet further includes a controller operable to receive the desired velocity signal, receive the actual velocity signal, calculate a commanded acceleration ac, and generate a commanded velocity Vc based on the desired velocity signal, a jerk value j, and the commanded acceleration ac. A method of controlling a continuously variable transmission is also disclosed.

Variable prism eyeglasses
Patent number: 8157375
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an eyeglass device that has manually variable prisms to correct strabismus; that is, double vision. The variable prism eyeglasses consist of an eyeglass frame that holds two primary rings in position and provides baseline reference points for alignment. Prism lenses and corrective lenses fit inside the primary rings and allow the two prism lenses of each primary ring to rotate independently and to hold the corrective lens fixed in place relative to the primary rings. Detent channels on the upper surface and lower surface of the primary rings are the means by which the prisms are adjusted. Each prism lens is moved and positioned via a prism lens pin located in the base of each prism lens. The prism lens pins fit into the detents in the detent channels of the primary ring. The detent selected determines the amount of corrective power the prisms will produce.

SCHOLAR STARTER SYSTEM
Publication number: 20190066044
Abstract: This invention relates to a system and method for distributing new products in the selected regions, such as university, college by incentivizing a member, such as students of the university, from the same region. The scholar starter network includes; key student module, new student module, new school module, new company module, ordering application module, tracking module, key student database, school database and product database. The key students are incentivized by the university and/or the product supplier to promote sales of the product on their campus. The university sets the parameters for distribution, including but not limited to, distribution locations, product types, and distribution enticements. Key students utilize a mobile app to view and order available products to at least one of the university approved distribution sites. Products progress through the supply chain is tracked by NFC tags in the product packaging and reported to the key student's mobile app.

Laternal field emmission devices and methods of fabrication
Patent number: 5308439
Abstract: Lateral cathode field emission devices and methods of fabrication are set forth. Conventional integrated circuit fabrication techniques are advantageously used to produce the lateral FEDs. Cathode tips on the order of several hundred angstroms are consistently obtained as well as exact spacing of the cathode to gate and cathode to anode. Various cathode and device configurations are described, including a circular field emission device. A single integrated structure having multiple cathodes and multiple gates is possible to perform various logic operations and/or enhance current output from the device. Multiple field effect devices, with cathodes disposed parallel or perpendicular to the substrate, are integrally coupled through a sharing of one or more metallization layers definitive of the elements of the devices. Significant advantages in current density and circuit layout can be obtained. Methods for fabricating the various devices are also explained.
